The European Commission has approved Siemens Mobility’s acquisition of key businesses from Italian rail technology company MERMEC Group. The deal was first announced in May 2026 and is expected to close by the end of the year.
The acquisition includes MERMEC’s wayside signaling, electrification and diagnostics operations, which serve customers in more than 70 countries. The businesses employ approximately 1,700 people. They were projected to generate around €430 million in revenue for the 2025 fiscal year. The transaction’s financial terms were not disclosed.
The purchase expands Siemens Mobility’s global rail infrastructure portfolio, particularly in digital and predictive maintenance. Combining Siemens’ onboard diagnostics with MERMEC’s infrastructure inspection vehicles and software is expected to strengthen the company’s asset intelligence and signaling capabilities.
