Siemens is collaborating with Nvidia to develop AI-driven autonomous manufacturing technology. The solutions were unveiled at Siemens' electronics factory in Erlangen, Germany.

They combine AI with virtual replicas of factory systems to accelerate production ramp-up and improve planning. Siemens says the approach can reduce engineering efforts for new printed circuit board assemblies by up to 85%. It can also shorten time-to-market by up to 40%.

AI agent-based production planning is expected to generate cost savings of up to 20% by adjusting schedules to shortages and changes in demand. Siemens managing board member Cedrik Neike highlighted the potential to apply AI at industrial scale in factories.

Siemens plans further applications of the technology in the coming months. The announcement coincided with an investment summit in Berlin involving Nvidia, the German government and German business leaders.
