Members of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), Boeing’s largest white-collar union, have rejected a second contract offer from the company. The vote raises the risk of a work stoppage that could disrupt Boeing’s operations.
SPEEA represents around 17,000 engineers, scientists and technical workers, primarily in the Puget Sound region. The professional unit rejected the four-year deal by 64%. The technical unit voted against it by 72%.
Union members had previously authorized a strike in August. Their current contract expires on October 6, and a walkout could begin as early as October 7, potentially delaying key aircraft certification and production programs.
