Boeing faces significant financial strain following its $8.4 billion acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems in December 2025. The company discovered that Spirit’s liabilities exceed identifiable assets by approximately $1.9 billion.

These unexpected liabilities stem from off-market customer contracts valued at $1.52 billion. Boeing increased its balance sheet goodwill to over $10.2 billion to account for the financial burden. The integration aims to streamline manufacturing and improve quality control despite these complications.

Boeing now expects its commercial aircraft division to reach profitability in 2027. This updated forecast represents a one-year delay from previous estimates.
