Malaysia Airlines is reportedly nearing an order for approximately 10 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners. The new aircraft would replace the carrier's current fleet of seven leased Airbus A350-900s. Deliveries for the Boeing wide-body jets are expected to begin in 2031.
The deal marks the first time Boeing wide-body jets will serve the airline's passenger fleet since the retirement of its 777s a decade ago. Boeing gained a competitive edge by offering earlier delivery slots than Airbus could provide for its A350s.
Parent company Malaysia Aviation Group also considered the Airbus A350-1000 and the Boeing 777X for the fleet renewal.
