Four construction workers have died after a steel structure collapsed at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s Fab 22 site in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan. The accident occurred Tuesday, causing the workers to fall. Three died that day; a fourth died Wednesday morning from their injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest bolts on a connecting plate may have snapped. TSMC and its contractor have suspended construction at the site. TSMC has also halted similar steel structure work at all its construction sites across Taiwan while it conducts a full investigation with local authorities.

Fab 22 is part of the Southern Taiwan Science Park and is slated to produce TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometer chips. The work stoppage and investigation could affect the construction schedule for the next-generation fabrication plant.
