Samsung Electronics established the RX (Robotics eXperience) division to consolidate its robotics operations. Co-chief executive TM Roh will directly oversee the new unit. This move aims to offset slowing growth in the company's core smartphone and home appliance sectors.
The company committed approximately 60 trillion won ($40.7 billion) to develop AI infrastructure and humanoid robot manufacturing in the Yeongnam region. Samsung plans to establish research hubs in the United States, China, and Japan. Initial development will focus on manufacturing humanoids before expanding into retail and home environments.
Samsung shares rose 6% following the announcement. Investors responded to the strategic shift into the physical AI sector.
