Samsung Electronics shares climbed more than 8% on August 12, 2026. Asia Business Daily reported that Singapore’s state-owned Temasek Holdings plans a direct investment in the chipmaker.

The news bolstered investor confidence following a sharp semiconductor sector sell-off in July. Analysts view the potential Temasek investment as a positive signal for Samsung’s undervalued stock.

Markets expect Samsung to increase shareholder returns through buybacks and dividends. This follows a similar strategy recently announced by competitor SK Hynix.

Temasek clarified it first invested in the company over two years ago. The firm stated it did not seek government advice regarding the timing of its investment.
