Samsung Electronics and its affiliates announced a combined $1 billion investment in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure company formed by investment firm KKR. Samsung Electronics will contribute $500 million. The balance will come from affiliates including Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, and its insurance arms.
The conglomerate said the investment is a “pivotal milestone” that will help its affiliates use their expertise in hardware and components to gain influence at the system and infrastructure levels of the AI industry.
Separately, a company executive highlighted the growing importance of AI hardware. The executive projected that high-bandwidth memory (HBM) could account for nearly 30% of the industry’s DRAM capacity by 2027.
