Samsung Electronics moved the launch of its first Yongin semiconductor plant to 2029. This new timeline accelerates the original schedule by one to two years. Surging global demand for artificial intelligence chips drove the strategic shift.

The South Korean government is simultaneously fast-tracking the development of the Yongin National Industrial Complex. This facility is a core component of Samsung’s 2,030 trillion won investment in its Pyeongtaek and Yongin clusters.

Samsung plans to construct a total of six semiconductor plants at the Yongin site. The accelerated schedule aims to secure a competitive lead in next-generation AI chip production.
