The European Commission granted marketing authorization for Roche’s Susvimo to treat neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). This approval establishes Susvimo as the first continuous-delivery treatment for nAMD in the European Union. The condition remains a primary cause of vision loss for individuals over age 60.

The system utilizes a refillable eye implant named Contivue to deliver a customized formulation of ranibizumab. This technology reduces treatment frequency to as few as two administrations per year. Standard-of-care eye injections typically require significantly more frequent dosing.

A Phase III study supported the approval by demonstrating that Susvimo maintains vision equivalently to monthly injections.
