The FDA approved Roche’s Enspryng (satralizumab) for adults with thyroid eye disease. This marks the first at-home, subcutaneous treatment option for the condition. Patients or caregivers can self-administer the drug following training.
Approval followed clinical trials where a subsequent study showed significant benefits despite an initial failed endpoint. Enspryng achieved a 52.9% proptosis response rate compared to 23.4% for the placebo group. The treatment reduced double vision by 60.7% versus 25.8% in the control group. Roche is currently testing Enspryng for other neurological autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
