Petrobras awarded Halliburton a contract for drilling and completion services at the São Tomé CCS Pilot Project in Rio de Janeiro. The project involves four onshore wells. It marks Latin America’s first integration of CO2 pipeline transport with saline reservoir storage.
The pilot will test the full chain of CO2 capture, transport, and geological storage technologies. Petrobras plans to inject up to 100,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. This injection program will run for three years.
The scope includes one injection well and three monitoring wells. Drilling and completion are scheduled for conclusion by 2028. Operations will begin in 2029.
The contract expands Halliburton’s presence in Brazil’s emerging carbon-management market. This project supports Petrobras’s broader decarbonization strategy.
