The Public Utility Commission of Texas votes today on three 765-kilovolt transmission lines proposed by Oncor and AEP Texas. The project spans nearly 800 miles to deliver electricity to the state’s oil, gas, and industrial sectors.

This infrastructure is a central component of the Permian Basin Reliability Plan to address lagging electricity capacity. However, hundreds of landowners oppose the project due to property rights concerns and questions regarding the necessity of the lines.

The decision will determine significant capital investment for the utilities and signal the regulatory climate for large-scale grid modernization. The outcome serves as a test for how states facilitate the infrastructure required by industrial expansion and widespread electrification.
