Russia renewed its offer to supply India with advanced Izdeliye 177S engines for Su-30MKI fighter jets during the BRICS 2026 summit.

The proposal follows a September Ministry of Defence contract for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to build 240 existing AL-31FP engines.

The Izdeliye 177S model provides greater thrust and improved fuel efficiency compared to current hardware.

Officials are discussing the integration of indigenous Indian weapon systems with the upgraded engine platform.

India has not reached a decision on the offer, which carries long-term implications for HAL’s manufacturing and maintenance role.
