ViiV Healthcare, the HIV-focused company majority-owned by GSK, said its long-acting injectable treatment Cabenuva met the primary endpoint in the Phase IIIb CROWN study.
At six months, Cabenuva achieved a higher rate of viral suppression than standard daily oral antiretroviral therapy among patients who had detectable virus levels at the start of the study.
Cabenuva is currently approved primarily for patients who are already virologically suppressed. The findings could support expanding its use to patients who have struggled to maintain viral suppression with daily oral medication, potentially because of adherence challenges.
ViiV Healthcare plans to submit the findings to regulatory authorities for review.
