GSK plans to cut up to 1,217 jobs in Belgium as part of a broader global restructuring. The proposed reductions will primarily affect management and other white-collar roles in research and development, manufacturing support, and international support services at its sites in Rixensart, Wavre, and Gembloux. Production-floor workers are not expected to be affected.

The three-year restructuring program was launched in July 2026. GSK aims to save £1.9 billion ($2.5 billion) annually by 2029 and plans to reinvest the savings in its late-stage drug pipeline and research and development.

The changes are intended to prepare for the loss of patent protection for GSK’s key HIV drug, dolutegravir, and simplify operations through steps such as increased automation. The move follows other workforce reductions, including the closure of a vaccine factory in Germany.
