A significant Google Cloud outage in its London region (europe-west2) caused widespread disruption to online services on Tuesday morning, particularly in the UK financial sector. The outage began around 7:08 AM UK time.
It affected at least 36 Google Cloud products, including Compute Engine and Cloud Storage.
The disruption left millions of Revolut customers unable to use the app, make card payments or withdraw cash. A source familiar with the matter confirmed that Revolut’s outage was directly related to the Google Cloud issues.
Lloyds Banking Group and HSBC also saw a spike in reported problems. The budgeting app Emma explicitly blamed the Google outage.
