Google and Xcel Energy propose a partnership. It will power a new 780-megawatt AI data center. The data center is located in Pine Island, Minnesota.

The agreement supports Google's goal. Google aims to operate on carbon-free energy 24/7 by 2030. This energy will power core services including Search, YouTube, and Cloud.

Google will help finance new clean energy capacity for the local grid. This capacity includes 1,400 megawatts of wind. It also includes 200 megawatts of solar. Additionally, it includes 300 megawatts of long-duration battery storage.

This new generation will serve all Xcel customers. It will not serve only Google.

Google will cover its infrastructure costs. The agreement requires approval from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.
