Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon and Oracle have made more than $3 trillion in combined AI-related spending commitments for the coming years.

Most commitments are for AI infrastructure, including data centers, chips and energy contracts. Companies disclose much of this spending in financial footnotes as off-balance-sheet commitments, including purchase agreements and leases that have not yet begun.

Recent regulatory filings provide more specific figures. Alphabet's commitments exceed $1 trillion. They include more than $924 billion in purchase commitments and more than $130 billion in leases that have not yet begun.

Meta has disclosed about $825 billion in future commitments. These are primarily for investments in its own data centers and AI infrastructure.

The long-term investments reflect intense competition to build the foundational capacity for future AI development.
