American Electric Power (AEP) plans to invest approximately $4 billion in a fuel cell generation facility near Cheyenne, Wyoming. The facility will have a capacity of 702 megawatts.

Google will purchase the electricity under a 20-year power purchase agreement to meet its growing energy needs in the area, including for a planned data center campus.

Cheyenne Fuel Cell LLC will develop the project. AEP owns about 92% of the company.

The facility will use fuel cell technology from Bloom Energy, which generates electricity without burning natural gas. The project also includes plans to integrate carbon capture technology.

Construction is slated to begin in 2026. The facility is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2028.
