TotalEnergies SE and a private consortium have warned of potential nationwide fuel supply disruptions in Madagascar. The warning follows the Malagasy government's requisition of the island's only major oil-storage facility at the port of Toamasina.
The government seized the terminal to unload a tanker for the state utility. This action prevented a vessel chartered by the Groupement Pétrolier de Madagascar (GPM) from offloading diesel, gasoline, and kerosene.
A new law recently established a state-run company to manage fuel imports, ending a long-standing arrangement with private firms. GPM stated the government's decision makes it impossible to unload their vessel, threatening national stock balances and distribution.
