TotalEnergies and Eni reached a final investment decision to develop the Cronos natural gas field off Cyprus. The partners expect first gas deliveries to reach European markets by the first half of 2028.

Cypriot Energy Minister George Papanastasiou announced the project as a critical alternative energy source for Europe. The development aims to strengthen regional energy security amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The project requires a new pipeline connecting the Cronos field to Egypt’s Zohr gas field infrastructure. Gas will then flow to an Egyptian liquefaction facility for export to Europe.

This initiative advances the monetization of Eastern Mediterranean gas discoveries. It establishes the region as a key supplier for the European continent.
