Enbridge resumed operations on its Line 5 pipeline in Wisconsin after a shutdown on August 25, 2026. A subcontractor's unoccupied truck rolled into an excavation site, striking the pipe. This incident caused a spill of natural gas liquids.

Enbridge brought the pipeline back online using a temporary bypass around the damaged section. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had asked Enbridge to halt construction. The DNR cited a lack of required state approvals. It also expressed concern over a "disregard for the environment."

Enbridge stated it worked with federal regulators to restore service. The company terms Line 5 "critical infrastructure" for the Great Lakes region. Enbridge will continue environmental monitoring at the spill site.
