Salesforce has won a contract with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), the U.K.'s tax authority, to provide a new customer relationship management (CRM) platform. The contract has a maximum value of £2.4 billion, including VAT, and covers software and professional services.

The initial agreement runs for ten years, with options to extend it by a further five years. The contract could therefore last until 2041.

The deal is part of a wider HMRC technology overhaul aimed at improving customer service and unifying taxpayer data. Salesforce was selected through a competitive bidding process that also included Pegasystems.
