The Chemours Company, along with DuPont and Corteva, entered into a settlement agreement with the State of North Carolina and 11 local entities to resolve all claims related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other emissions from the company's Fayetteville Works facility.

Key Details

  • Settlement Amount: The agreement includes an aggregate payment of $455 million to the claimants, payable over a 15-year period beginning within 30 days of the September 9, 2026 execution date.
  • Cost-Sharing Agreement: Consistent with a prior Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Chemours will be responsible for 50% of the settlement payments, with DuPont and Corteva collectively responsible for the remaining 50%.
  • MOU Impact: For the purposes of the companies' $4 billion MOU cap on qualified spending, the settlement will be applied at a net present value of $210 million. Additionally, future contributions to the MOU escrow account, including a $50 million payment from Chemours due in September 2026, are now considered satisfied.
