BYD has partnered with Inokom Corporation, a subsidiary of Sime Darby, to assemble its electric vehicles in Malaysia. A memorandum of understanding names Inokom as BYD’s local partner for completely knocked-down (CKD) operations at Inokom’s facility in Kulim, Kedah. The arrangement will use Inokom’s existing manufacturing infrastructure and supply chain.

The partnership follows reports that BYD changed its initial plans for a dedicated assembly plant in Malaysia. BYD describes the agreement as a core part of its long-term commitment to the country. It aims to bring the company’s new energy vehicle technology closer to the Malaysian market while supporting the local automotive industry.
