Hopper agreed to a $35 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission to resolve undisclosed fee allegations. The travel booking company marketed a no hidden fees policy while using deceptive dark pattern interface designs. These designs automatically charged users for pre-selected add-ons including Tips and VIP Support.

Regulators discovered these fees remained hidden on app screens requiring users to scroll down for visibility. The settlement also addresses misrepresented benefits for Price Freeze and VIP Support services.

The $35 million settlement fund will provide direct refunds to affected consumers. Hopper must now clearly disclose all fees and faces a permanent ban on misrepresenting its pricing.

Hopper stated the allegations involve outdated practices that the company discontinued in mid-2023.
