BASF and Carlyle officially closed the sale of BASF’s coatings business on June 30, 2026. The transaction carries an enterprise value of €7.7 billion. BASF received approximately €5.8 billion in pre-tax cash proceeds from the deal.
The divested units include automotive OEM coatings, automotive refinish coatings, and surface treatment operations. These businesses will now operate under the new name Surventis.
BASF retains a 40% equity stake in Surventis. The company will account for this holding as a financial investment using the equity method.
Management described the sale as a key milestone to unlock value and sharpen strategic focus. The resulting disposal gain will be recorded in BASF Group’s net income and earnings per share.
