Airbus SE conducted the first test flight of its new A350 freighter on Tuesday, marking a step in its effort to gain a larger share of the cargo market, where Boeing Co. has historically dominated. The aircraft took off from Airbus's headquarters in Toulouse, France.
Designed to compete directly with Boeing's 777 freighter, the A350F now begins a nine-month certification process. Airbus expects the aircraft to enter commercial service in the second half of next year, after supply-chain issues caused delays.
Airbus has secured more than 100 orders for the A350F, signaling strong market interest. Air-freight demand is rising as geopolitical issues disrupt sea transport.
