An Australian federal judge has ordered Apple to let iPhone users in the country install apps from third-party app stores and websites. The changes must take effect by March 1, 2027.

The ruling is a significant outcome of Epic Games’ long-running antitrust lawsuit against Apple. Epic created Fortnite.

The court found that Apple misused its substantial market power to restrict competition in iOS app distribution and in-app payments. Apple disagrees with the findings and plans to appeal, seeking a stay of the order.
