American Airlines will install SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet across its entire mainline fleet, covering all Airbus and Boeing aircraft. The agreement covers more than 1,000 aircraft, including narrowbody and widebody jets used for long-haul international flights. It expands a plan announced in May 2026 that covered about 500 Airbus jets.

Installations are scheduled to begin in early 2027. Aircraft will use Starlink’s Performance Aero Terminal, designed to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity. Passengers will be able to stream video, play online games and use collaboration tools from gate to gate.

The move positions American to compete with carriers such as United Airlines, which have also committed to fleet-wide Starlink installations. It also puts pressure on rivals using other systems.
