American Airlines (AAL) and Google back a new sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in Texas. The Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance (SABA), including McKinsey and Bain & Company, committed to purchasing SAF certificates from Infinium's planned "Project Atlas."
American Airlines will take physical delivery of the eSAF, produced using renewable energy and waste carbon dioxide. The deal provides a long-term revenue stream for the project, securing financing for the plant's construction.
The Project Atlas facility is expected to produce approximately 100,000 metric tons of SAF annually. The initiative allows corporate members to invest in SAF to address business travel emissions. American Airlines will handle fuel logistics and use.
