American Airlines and Alaska Airlines plan for Alaska to join American’s international joint businesses on transatlantic and transpacific routes. The move aims to expand global travel options and network access for customers of both airlines, building on their existing oneworld alliance relationship.

The airlines will seek approval and antitrust immunity from the U.S. Department of Transportation and other international regulators. If approved, they could coordinate schedules and fares on international flights, operating more closely in those markets.

The Atlantic Joint Business includes British Airways and Iberia. The Pacific Joint Business includes Japan Airlines.
