Brian Znotins, American Airlines’ senior vice president of network planning, is leaving the company as it shifts focus from domestic and short-haul routes toward rebuilding its presence in major international markets and attracting more premium customers.

Nick Andersen, a nearly 20-year veteran of American Airlines and US Airways, will become senior vice president of network planning on November 1. The appointment is part of a series of leadership changes as American seeks to narrow its profitability gap with Delta and United and improve its operational and financial performance. The airline also reshuffled its management team in August.
