Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is reportedly in discussions with Elon Musk’s Terafab project about collaborating on advanced semiconductor manufacturing in the United States. The potential joint venture aims to strengthen US domestic chip production.
The Culpium newsletter first reported the discussions, which Musk later confirmed on X. Terafab could provide financing and purchase agreements to keep the new plant’s capacity consistently utilized, while TSMC would contribute its manufacturing expertise.
The talks come amid efforts to diversify global semiconductor supply chains.
