BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li announced on October 8, 2026, that the company is putting plans to sell passenger cars in the United States on hold. Speaking at the Milken Institute Asia Summit in Singapore, Li cited geopolitical uncertainty, saying the U.S. market is “complicated” and lacks the clarity and stability needed for investment.

The decision marks a significant pause in BYD’s global expansion strategy. Li said BYD has been in the United States for a long time but cannot move forward with passenger vehicle sales “at this moment.”

At the same event, Li described BYD’s Hong Kong-listed stock as “super undervalued” compared with U.S. companies.
