Elon Musk has invested approximately $1 billion in Skydance, the new media conglomerate formed after David Ellison's company acquired Warner Bros. Discovery. The acquisition was valued at $110 billion and completed in early October 2026. The combined company officially closed the merger on October 6.
Skydance now controls assets including Warner Bros. studio, HBO, CNN, and Paramount. It is managing nearly $80 billion in debt following the merger.
The investment is part of a broader effort to strengthen the company's finances. Skydance plans to achieve more than $6 billion in cost savings, a strategy expected to include significant layoffs.
The investment is seen as a vote of confidence in CEO David Ellison's leadership. It also highlights ties between Musk and the Ellison family. David's father, Larry Ellison, was a key investor in Musk's acquisition of X (formerly Twitter).
