Volkswagen debuts ID. ERA 5X and 5S, deepening China localization

Volkswagen’s SAIC-VW joint venture announced two new models to advance its Chinese electric vehicle strategy.

Regulatory filings revealed the ID. ERA 5X, an all-electric compact SUV. This model is the first built on the China-specific Compact Main Platform (CMP). It also utilizes the new China Electronic Architecture (CEA).

SAIC Volkswagen opened pre-sales for the ID. ERA 5S, a plug-in hybrid sedan. The vehicle is the first Volkswagen sedan globally to feature urban Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) capabilities.

These releases aim to align Volkswagen’s portfolio with the technological preferences and competitive landscape of the Chinese market.
