Volkswagen’s works council announced extraordinary staff meetings on Friday to address extensive overhaul plans. CEO Oliver Blume will face direct questioning from employees regarding the restructuring.
The first meeting occurs August 25 at the Wolfsburg headquarters. Additional sessions follow on August 26 at the Emden and Zwickau plants. These locations are among four facilities currently facing potential closure.
The restructuring aims to reduce costs and increase the automaker's global competitiveness. Internal reports suggest the overhaul could eliminate 100,000 to 140,000 jobs. This figure represents a significant increase over previous estimates.
The works council and supervisory board strongly oppose the proposed cuts. Management currently faces a massive loss of trust from the workforce.
