Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is reportedly considering Dallas, Texas, for a second U.S. chipmaking campus. The investment could exceed the $265 billion planned for its Arizona operations. The campus could include six advanced wafer fabs.
The expansion could bring TSMC closer to U.S. customers, who account for most of its revenue, and reduce geopolitical risks. Reports also cite Texas’s large workforce and stable power supply as factors in the consideration.
TSMC has not confirmed the plans. Reports on its shares’ reaction were mixed: some cited a slight dip in premarket trading, while others reported a small intraday rise.
