Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has approved a cumulative US$44 billion in TSMC investments for its U.S. expansion since December 2020. The approvals came in seven tranches, beginning in December 2020.
The investments are part of a broader US$265 billion plan for TSMC’s Arizona subsidiary. The plan includes six advanced wafer fabs, two advanced IC assembly plants, and a research and development center.
The investment reflects TSMC’s commitment to diversifying its manufacturing footprint globally. The company says its most advanced technologies and largest production capacity will remain in Taiwan.
