SpaceX announced it will acquire a nationwide 800MHz low-band spectrum portfolio from infrastructure investor Grain Management. The spectrum can help signals reach inside buildings, addressing a key gap in Starlink’s mobile ambitions and positioning the service to operate as a standalone U.S. cellular network and compete directly with established carriers.
SpaceX shares rose more than 4% following the announcement. Verizon and AT&T shares fell approximately 7-8%, reflecting investor concerns about competition from a combined satellite and terrestrial network.
