SpaceX selected Qualcomm Technologies to provide core technology for Starlink Mobile, its planned nationwide terrestrial 5G network in the United States. The partnership advances SpaceX’s effort to expand Starlink beyond satellite broadband and into the wireless market.
Under a multi-year agreement, Qualcomm will supply Dragonwing Cellular Infrastructure platforms for Starlink’s ground-based base stations. The technology is designed to provide high-capacity coverage using advanced Massive MIMO radio and power-efficient processing. The companies also describe the collaboration as a step toward AI-native 6G infrastructure.
SpaceX plans to begin the nationwide U.S. deployment in 2027, with tens of thousands of sites expected. The network would combine satellite and terrestrial connectivity as SpaceX seeks to become a major U.S. mobile carrier.
