OMV Petrom is advancing construction of a €560 million sustainable fuels unit at the Petrobrazi refinery. Workers have already laid foundations and installed major equipment like columns and reactors.

The facility will produce 250,000 metric tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (HVO) annually. It will process renewable feedstocks, including used cooking oils.

The unit will use green hydrogen and expects to begin operations in 2028. This infrastructure allows the refinery to adjust its product mix to meet shifting market demands.

The investment aims to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation and heavy transport sectors. It serves as a primary component of the company's energy transition strategy.
