Snap Inc. and Meta Platforms are set to face a trial in Los Angeles beginning October 28, 2026. Two teenage plaintiffs allege that features such as infinite scroll and autoplay encouraged compulsive use and contributed to depression, anxiety and eating disorders.
The trial is the second of its kind involving individual plaintiffs who accuse social media companies of deliberately designing addictive platforms. Proceedings are expected to last several weeks, and Snap CEO Evan Spiegel and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg are expected to testify.
The case is part of a broader legal battle over social media’s impact on young people’s mental health. Thousands of similar lawsuits have been filed across the U.S. by individuals, school districts and states.
