SK hynix's board approved a 54.3 trillion won investment for South Korean semiconductor plants. This total investment equals approximately $38.1 billion. The funding will construct two new fabrication facilities. The move aims to solidify leadership in the artificial intelligence memory market. The company targets rising demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), next-generation DRAM, and enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs).

The project allocates approximately $24.9 billion for an HBM and DRAM facility in Yongin. The facility in Cheongju will receive approximately $13.2 billion for NAND flash production.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027. The plants are expected to come online around 2029. This expansion responds to a structural transformation where memory is a core component of AI performance.
