SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won announced that SK Hynix Inc. is considering joint production with Japan’s Kioxia Holdings Corp. The move aims to reshape the global NAND flash memory market through supply chain coordination and joint research.
This potential collaboration would mirror the existing partnership between Kioxia and SanDisk. Chey warned that SK Hynix may sell its stake in Kioxia if manufacturing negotiations fail to materialize.
SK Hynix currently holds approximately 15% of Kioxia through convertible bonds. The company acquired this interest during a Bain Capital-led acquisition of the Japanese chipmaker.
