SAP avoided a potential European Union antitrust fine by offering concessions on its on-premise software maintenance policies. The European Commission accepted these commitments to conclude an investigation launched in September 2023. Regulators previously alleged that SAP unfairly hindered competition and restricted customers from switching service providers.
The new concessions remain valid globally for a ten-year period. SAP will introduce an alternative method for calculating license fees to increase transparency. The company also agreed to scrap reinstatement fees for its clients.
Returning customers will benefit from reduced back maintenance fees. These changes aim to provide clients with greater flexibility and choice when selecting service providers.
