Safran Aircraft Engines launched ground tests for the Phileas hybrid-electric propulsion demonstrator in Istres, France.
The full-scale demonstrator supports Safran’s development of next-generation engines for short- and medium-range aircraft. This project aligns with the CFM International RISE program.
The technology targets a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to current engines.
The six-month campaign includes nearly 300 hours of trials to validate hybrid-electric performance. Engineers will test power extraction and injection from the engine's high- and low-pressure shafts.
These trials simulate various flight conditions to mature sustainable aviation technology.
